Principal’s Message for 2020
Happy New Year!
I will like to thank all our parents, alumni and community partners for your trust and support in 2019. Your feedback and suggestions have helped the school set the directions for the unique Qihua education experience that we hope to provide for every Qihuaian.
In Qihua, we remain steadfast to our mission of nurturing future-ready leaders committed to giving their best to their family, community and Singapore. With the changing future landscape, our children need to be equipped with the competencies and skills to embrace changes so that they can find their footing in the society, unfazed by the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity that the future holds for them. To thrive in a world whereby change is the only constant, our children must have the passion and the ability to learn for life as well as the resilience to bounce back from setbacks.
As we enter a new decade, we hope to nurture students who Learn for Life by Learning to Learn and Learning to Live. As our children “learn to learn”, they develop learning dispositions that drive self-directed learning. We envision our children to be motivated learners who are always curious and passionate in learning. As our children “learn to live”, they develop qualities that allow them to have a positive outlook and to empathise and contribute actively to the community. In Qihua, there are bountiful opportunities to facilitate the learning such as community involvement programmes, putting up of performances in the community etc. In 2019, some of our Qihuaians “contributed their voices” when their responses to articles on current affairs and social issues were published in the Whatsup Newspaper. Our Applied Learning Programme on Innovation and Entrepreneurship branches out to various learning opportunities including the Primary 5 Innovation Programme and the Inter-disciplinary Project Work for Primary 3 to 5 students. Through these, Qihuaians apply their learning to generate solutions that improve their lives and the lives of others.
In Qihua, our teachers are Learners for life too. We are constantly engaged in professional development in the form of professional learning communities within and beyond the school as well as overseas learning opportunities. This is to ensure that we are adequately equipped with the skills to prepare our children for the changing landscape in the future.
I am confident, with the continued support of our valued stakeholders, unwavering dedication of the Qihua staff, the new direction will bring our Qihuaians one step closer to becoming future-ready leaders.
Once again, the Qihua family looks forward to another year of meaningful partnerships with all our stakeholders as we work hand in hand to provide the best learning experiences for our children.
Wishing everyone a fruitful year ahead!
